The coaches, especially Chris, Tim and Ron, are always ready to challenge me and keep me in my place. The other members, especially my training partner Luke, the morning crew and the gang I see on Monday evenings and Saturdays, are fun, humble and always ready to kick ass. There is no way you can not be ready to go when you train with people like that.

I was doing personal training with a World Gym Trainer, and he took me into the Crossfit box for a workout session. I was impressed with the performance of the women I saw. They were doing stuff I had dreamed of doing but did not think I could do. I discussed with him right then that I wanted to join CrossFit.

I stay because whenever I am in the box at MCCF, it’s like I am with family. Everyone here is very friendly, very complimentary to each other, and also helpful. My advice to a new person would be to give CrossFit a try. There is always something new to learn… and learning something new each and every day is the hallmark of our existence.

If you were thinking about joining CrossFit, I would tell you to “just give it a try! I would also encourage people to get to know the other people in the gym. It is so easy to walk in and get intimidated by the amazing athletes you see, but most people have struggles with some aspect, whether it be weight, injury, depression, or a myriad of other issues. The only way to know what other people's stories are is to ask. You might be surprised with what you find out. CrossFit definitely encourages you to do things that you would never do outside of the "box".

“Every member at MCCF inspires me to keep coming back. They have truly become my gym family. I look forward to seeing them daily and sweating with them. My family also keeps me going, because it feels good hearing how proud they are of me.” This will possibly be the hardest physical exercise you have done, most of it will seem impossible to accomplish, and there will be a lot of things you will not be able to do initially. IT’S OK!!! We were all at that same point at one time, and some days we are still at that point, but don’t give up. Your MCCF family will encourage you, support you, be your biggest cheerleaders and sometimes cry with you, until you reach your goals. I lost 87 pounds and feel great!

A friend of mine suggested CrossFit and I was terrified of it, but gave it a try. That was well over a year ago now.

Stacy notes, “I still have barriers due to the stoke, and I probably always will. But CrossFit enables me to work through them. Being part of such an amazing CrossFit community is so exciting. Everyone I meet is inspiring. Watching people new to CrossFit doing things they have never imagined doing is awesome. I love watching the transformations. There are many common misconceptions about CrossFit. People assume it’s too hard or that they need to be fit to start. I also hear people say “I’m too old” or “I can’t …… “ (fill in the blank). My response is you are NOT too old, and YES you can!” I become stronger all the time, pushing past obstacles and inspiring others to work harder as well. And I am never bored at CrossFit!

I tried a few different boxes before coming to MCCF. The open gym structure at MCCF was different from any other box that I had been to. I loved the idea of not being confined to a one-hour window for a CrossFit session. During my trial period I developed new friendships with coaches and members, and since then I have stayed with MCCF because those personal relationships have grown and now I have a wonderful gym family.

The enormous variety of exercises and workouts provides the right type of stimulus so that progress never plateaus. The personalized coaching at MCCF is a huge bonus as well! I have completed an Ironman, three 50-mile ultramarathons, and a 101-mile ultramarathon – I truly believe that I would not have been able to achieve those goals without the supplementation of CrossFit and the training guidance from coaches.

I feel CrossFit has helped me become a much more well-rounded athlete. Can I say athlete? It feels so foreign for someone who grew up very non-athletic.

My advice is the best form of exercise is the one that you enjoy doing and will stick with. And I enjoy doing CrossFit and have stuck with it.

Aren't we all here to better ourselves? And this is what I feel betters me - physically, mentally, socially...

I like any experience that involves a social aspect; that's just me. But the fact that I can incorporate that into an avenue of physical activity makes me happy.

In the beginning, the WODs (Workout of the Day) felt like a foreign language and I was nervous each time, but kept coming back. Now you can find me at MCCF every day, inspiring others with my effort and progress. I love to push myself to “keep up with the younger girls”… but in reality, the younger girls need to try to keep up with me! If you are new to CrossFit, stick with it! Anyone can do this. Modify / scale if you need to but don’t quit. I used to be a runner but now I believe CrossFit is a more complete workout; mixing weights, cardio and gymnastics.

MCCF members are some of the most encouraging people I’ve ever met. If you are new to CrossFit, or have never tried it before, don't be at all intimidated. No one judges anyone else. Through diet and exercise, I’ve managed to lose nearly 100 pounds. I’m actually smaller than I was before becoming pregnant with my first child 2 years ago People were skeptical that I’d be able to do it, and it was very daunting at first, but I am very proud of what I’ve accomplished. I only want to get stronger now.
